Attorney Duyen Nguyen's Curriculum Vitae

October 1983, Mr. Nguyen successfully escaped Vietnam by boat after 12 failed prior attempts. Arriving at a refugee camp in Indonesia, Mr. Nguyen was hired by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to work as the Resettlement Office Coordinator in Pulau Galang, Indonesia . His primary responsibility was to supervise a team of some 20 staff members, handling over ten thousand files for refugees. He also assisted in interviewing and counseling “boat people” who were the victims of the pirates at sea.

November 1984, Mr. Nguyen was admitted and resettled in the U.S. as a political refugee. From December 1984 to August 1985, Mr. Nguyen served as a volunteer in the Volunteers In Services To America (VISTA) program.

August 1985, Mr. Nguyen started his employment with the County of Santa Clara, California as an Eligibility Worker. He became an Eligibility Work supervisor in 1990, and subsequently promoted to Social Services Program Manager (SSPM) in May 1993 until December 2002. As a SSPM, Mr. Nguyen managed a staff of 150 employees and oversaw the programs providing public assistance to the needy. During this time, Mr. Nguyen developed an interest in the American legal system and an aspiration for a legal education. He attended Lincoln Law School of San Jose where he graduated in the year 2000 with a J.D. degree.

Being admitted to practice law in California in December 2001, Mr. Nguyen founded his own law firm in June 2002; his law firm has become one of the most reputable law firms in the Vietnamese American community in the Santa Clara County area.

For extra-curricular activities, Mr. Nguyen has written legal articles for Vietnamese language magazines such as Viet Tide (Orange County), Viet Mercury (Santa Clara County), and Viet Tribune (Santa Clara County); and is presently a legal columnist with the Viet Tribune weekly magazine in San Jose . Beginning in 2003 until the present, Mr. Nguyen has also hosted several radio legal talk shows on Vietnamese language radio stations (1430 AM and 1500 AM). These activities have helped educate the Vietnamese American population in general about the legal system and the administration of justice in the U.S.

Mr. Nguyen has a passion for teaching. At the request of the Dean he joined the faculty at Lincoln Law School teaching Introduction to Law, Immigration Law and in the School’s free Academic Support Program in Performance Exams (having been tutored therefore by long time CEB bar reader, Richard Spector). He was appointed the Associate Dean of Academics at Lincoln Law School in October 2007.
